A friend asked me to decorate her sons room in the theme of "space". I was given a $250 budget. On a strict budget, I had to be creative how I spent my money and what my priorities for the room were.
THE PLAN!
BEFORE:
AFTER:
The bedding and burtains were bought from WalMart. I discovered while working on the project, that young boys bedding is VERY limited.
After organizing all the books and toys and adding three navy canvas pop-up containers, all his toys and books fit in the same shelving unit as before.
I choose a lime green for his outdated oak bed. After I began to paint, I discovered that a paint wash worked the best. After watering down the Valspar paint, I lightly brushed on the paint, allowing the wood grain to show through. Such a pleasant surprise!
After painting the bed, I put on nickel knobs to update the piece and fixed the hinge and glued a simple Earth from Hobby Lobby on the middle cabinet.
I framed eight vintage style vacation flyers, printed at Kinko's, and disbursed them evenly on each wall for continuity and rhythm.
THE RESULT:
He loved it! :)

ReplyDeleteYes, those posters are amazing!
ReplyDeleteIt is difficult to find "decent" boy's bedding that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. His room looks terrific!
